Many parents hope that their children can learn Chinese well and master
English at the same time. What is the misunderstanding of English learning
shared by foreign teachers in Europe and America?
1、 Too much emphasis on studying English hard
Hard work is a virtue, but parents should tell their children that learning
should be a happy thing in the first place. It comes from people's demand for
knowledge and is a part of human nature. But in fact, Chinese children's
interest in learning English will be distorted by many external pressures or
unrealistic short-term goals. Blindly forcing children to memorize English words
and study grammar desperately, but ignoring the practical application. What's
more, it will make children lose interest in learning English, and even lead to
2、 Over emphasis on basic learning
What is the foundation? How to write ABC? Or "natural spelling" about the
spelling of words? Or the grammar of speaking?
In fact, language learning must start from the foundation is an illusion.
When learning English, you should think about your experience in learning your
mother tongue: when we started to learn to speak, you didn't touch any so-called
"foundation" or "pinyin". Instead, listen to your mother and the people around
you, and then imitate again and again. Learning English is the same, too much
emphasis on basic learning will lead to a serious imbalance between children's
English level and their actual age. What's more, children will lose confidence
and confidence in speaking English, and eventually become mute.
3、 Reversed the order of learning English
At present, most of the English education in China is based on reading and
writing. Reading refers to reading, not reading. Writing, which means writing
silently, is also silent.
Therefore, the number of Chinese students' words is very large, and their
reading ability is very good, but their listening and speaking are the worst.
Although the head is full of words and grammar, there is no voice, no soul. To
understand grammar is only to remember the structure of sentences, not to use
them flexibly; to read is only to read silently, and there is no sound. It's the
English language, not the language. But language without sound is
4、 Study grammar hard, but ignore language sense
What is grammar? Grammar is not only the law of language, but also the
feeling of language. Grammar is neither learned nor written down, but a rule
summed up in practical application. Without the cultivation of language sense,
grammar is just a empty talk.
5、 Wrong sense of practice before speaking
Most Chinese parents hold the idea of practice before speaking for their
children's English learning. They spend a lot of time on increasing the number
of words and consolidating the grammar. They think that children must practice
well before speaking, and only after practice can they communicate well with
foreigners. In fact, this is a mistake. The function of language is for
communication. At the beginning, it doesn't matter if you speak accurately. The
most important thing is to be brave to express what you want to say and
communicate with people.
6、 The ancestor of dumb English!
As a qualified English teacher for children, he should not only have a
relatively high level of English expression and application ability, but also be
familiar with the educational theory of children's psychological development,
and also have practical experience. But at present, such qualified bilingual
preschool teachers are very rare in China: the foreign teachers hired by many
preschool education institutions may not be professional teachers, but they have
prepared a "foreign face" to meet the needs of their parents. These incompetent
"teachers" are bound to cause confusion in children's English learning.
Therefore, it is not enough to give the English education to the school and
teachers. The most important thing is to have parents' active participation.
7、 Serious lack of creation of language environment
Now most of the situation is: children come back home after school,
completely out of the English environment, the better conditions only rely on
twice a week tutoring, so it is almost impossible for children to learn English
well. The most important thing to learn a language well is the environment. In
fact, the best environment to learn a language is at home. If parents can have a
simple conversation with their children in English every day, it will be
unimaginable help to their children's English learning.
